Golden youth

For more than three decades, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo traveled to every part and every corner of our country to meet the children of Bhutan. And everywhere our king went, from community schools to Sherbutse, our nation’s “peak of learning”, He commanded: “The future of our country lies in the hands of our youth.”

To honour and to celebrate our fourth king’s boundless love for and confidence in our youth, the Youth Development Fund started the Golden Youth Award a few years ago. This annual award essentially recognizes children who excel at school – in both, the classroom and playground – and the community.

The day before yesterday, in Phuentsholing, Her Majesty Ashi Tshering Pem Wangchuck, recognized our first batch of “golden youth”. They are:

Tshering Dhendup, Class VI, Samdrup Jonkhar MSS
Meghna Upreti, Class VI, Khuruthanng MSS
Phub Dorji, Class VIII, Yangchenphug HSS
Tsheyang Choden, Class VIII, Shari HSS
Tshewang Gyeltshen, Class X, Yangchenphug HSS
Nikey Subba, Class X, Khuruthang MSS
Dawa Gyeltshen, Class XII, Samtse HSS
Ugyen Lhamo, Class XII, Yangchenphug HSS

I congratulate each and every one of them for being “golden youth”, and for making their classmates, their schools, their parents, and, most importantly, their kings, proud of them.

Well done. Keep it up. Tashi Delek!

I am not sure if our Fourth Druk Gyalpo traveled every parts and every corners of our country to meet the children of Bhutan. I am not undermining HM’s work and sacrifices that he made for what Bhutan is today. Our 4th Druk Gyalpo, of course, is simply unmatched and indeed he is a visionary King.

Our 5th Druk Gyalpo is really a People’s King. He is traveling every nooks and corner of the country meeting poorest of the poor and granting kidus. This act of compassion is truly blessings for the people. For many it is like coming back to life after near death. This is the King people need.

    Long live our Druk Gyalpos!

Just saw a gang fight.it was 2.30 in the afternoon. two group of boys, age maybe 13 to 15 yrs. Weapons they were carrying.SWORD, TWO AXES, ONE LONG POINTED OBJECT, AND EMPTY BOTTLES. Venue: clock tower.
Are we really the country where every smiling face is a Buddha. Are we really a country of gurus. We talk about youth counselling. But i think we should counsell the parents. Our youth is going out of hand, which means the future of this beautiful country along with it. You have to do something about it sir.Ruling party seems to be too busy building airport and free tourist fee.I wonder what we can do withn the airport if there is no one to use it(sory to be too extreme) and i also wonder what the toursiy will say when they see our youth carrying swords and running all over town in broad daylight having fights.Did we tighten the noose too tight in the name of culture in the past.It feels like the noose is snapping now.BICMA feels cutting down tv channels will have less impact on youth. did kinley(secretary of BICMA)come up with this special mantra.

Thank you Anonymous 9:16 AM. I’ll re-check the results with YDF again. Better still, perhaps, someone from YDF can confirm the real results.
